365 days of aRt. DAY NINETY-FOUR.

you are my light
transcend to me
and my sea of unsteady thoughts
flowing rough waters that pound consciousness
at five o'clock in the morning
eyes closed
yoga pose for hours
take a shower
and manifest my own unique power
ignoring the towering insecure news
strewn forth in front of me
i am my own destiny
i am
i am me
and i tiptoe slow
from my mind's deep lotus performance
and inhale the aroma of life
all that is
that lives
that is part of me
i trace colors around the room
and sense the sweet perfume
of ancient goddesses
that danced in trance
just like this

Blog about the piece:
In a writing class last semester all of us were asked to break into groups and come up with a class curriculum for the week -- one that could be carried out by all the students in the class. We had all been assigned to locate a sit spot where we could go and write, in a space that was all our own. One of the projects that my group designed was to ask the students to arrive at their sit spots in a way they never had before. We asked them to jump, roll, skate, slither, fly, pogo-stick, cartwheel, walk backwards, etc. Whatever it was that they chose to do, it had to pull them out of their routine way of getting to the spot (in hopes of this giving them a new perspective of the area). I know that most of you may not have a sit spot or a meditation area, so go out of your element and choose a place you're in often (even if it's the bathroom). Travel there in a little bit of a different way each day. Be creative. Be childlike. Sometimes by just breaking the cycle we can discover parts of ourselves we've never even seen.
