Blog about the piece:
Each day I begin my creative process with freshly brewed coffee and a few good musicians in the background. The toughest obstacle is starting -- creating these canvases each day, and trying to make each one more original than the prior. How to begin, right? My biggest critic is myself -- I've been known to spend hours on canvases, and with one doubtful look, completely paint over the creation and start from scratch again. I blame my ego for this. But thanks to the advice of ELIZABETH GILBERT I've found a way to separate myself from my ego, my toughest critic. My creative process includes: the good coffee and music, paints, brushes and sometimes fingers, my typewriter (circa 1910), and alongside everything else it now includes a little bit of forgiveness and separation. If you have the chance tonight, take a moment to listen to GILBERT'S take on nurturing creativity: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius.html
