my words got in the way today
too much useless mumbling
nothing important to say
so i just kept talking
wasting energy
I think one big lesson for me this year is SILENCE! Not just sitting in silence or listening to that inner silence, but the gift and ability to be silent when needed. I think too often we let words slip from our lips only to regret what we've said. We force opinions or gossip or have way too much to say about nothing. I am good at this. In fact, I usually want to talk so much that I find myself interrupting others. Try this -- a nice little practice that I have taken up: be attentive in a conversation at some point this week. When you get the urge to say something ask yourself first, do these words really need to come out? Most of the time the answer is no... it is our minds being judgmental, selfish, or just over-active. Let me tell you, there is something so sweet about holding your tongue. Be a listener and be humble. Take in the conversations around you and just observe. When you do have something good to say, it will come. Enjoy the silence in the meantime.
