why can't you
look me in the eye
why do you
stand there changing face
for every time you've
told a lie
there's a scar put in it's place...
Blog about the piece:
I wonder if we can interpret the writing for today's canvas as first person rather than second -- as an inner voice speaking to oneself rather? So many times in life people drift in and out of their own identity; they don't even recognize themselves in the mirror. I remember being there before -- not even able to look myself in the eye because I didn't even know who I was. Sometimes this happens when our beliefs are challenged or when we connect with a whole new side of our personality. But when it comes from a lie, when we give ourselves a lie to live by, we create a scarred identity -- one that does not live up to who we really are. There is so much beauty in just being. Why do we ever layer it with lies? Being truthful to yourself is so important. If you can't find truth staring right back at you in the mirror then how can you be truthful to anyone else?
