lost and found
another materialistic thing
i can live without
another lesson about how
we attach ourselves to the crowd
wanting more than we give out
but how...
we are structured like an essay
never to break the lines
we define
what it is to be blind
without being blind
and we blame time
for our inability to love
with open minds
in this lifetime

Blog about the piece:
The holiday season is upon us. Lights are beginning to decorate the neighborhoods, sparkling trees can be spotted through windows, and snow -- the snow is finally starting to fall! I absolutely love this time of year. It's a time of giving and loving, sharing and being together. Although we all know "it's the thought that counts" we still often get caught up in purchasing the newest and the best for the holiday season. I know that I don't feel right without sticking some goodies into my family's stockings but do we really need all the stuff? In fact, I couldn't have said it better: "We have what we need, and another outfit or DVD really isn't going to change our lives." - IDSNews Having kids, I know that giving one more toy is fun in the moment but later gets stacked on another shelf or thrown into another toy box. We have the right idea to give, but maybe this year you can give something that is needed instead of just another knick-knack, another shirt, another gadget. A practice that I was given a while ago was when you get something new, get rid of something old. We don't need to show our love in things, even though that's what consumerism would have you believe. If you are going to buy gifts make them good ones. For instance, one of my favorite gifts to give the kids for the holiday season is used books. Keep in mind while braving the busy stores this weekend, that it really is the thought that counts.
side note: R&B Used Books is having a sale -- $1 for all hardcover books!
