a cup not empty but full of life
a need for nothing, no want no strife
a peaceful place to sit in prayer
no physical space but everywhere
a crystal mind, no thoughts appear
for all is one and all is here

Blog about the piece:
This Christmas it seemed that everyone kept asking me what I needed for myself and the family. I kept coming up with little things that seemed important enough to mention: socks, curtains, lotion, etc. The funny thing is though that I just moved into a new house and there are so many boxes filled with "stuff" that I don't even know what to do with all of it. I mean I have an abundance of "stuff" and now after the holiday season I have even more. It seems that our consumerism culture has definitely conditioned us to need new things, even when we don't. I tell my four-year old that commercials and advertisements are there to trick us into wanting to buy things but the truth is we're happy without them. I think it's a line worth repeating everyday; we are truly happy without most of the "stuff" in our lives. The Tao says, "If you have nothing to ask for in your mind, that state of mind is called the Tao." Let's take a moment to be full and completely gratified. Wanting nothing, thankful for everything.
