365 days of aRt. DAY THIRTY-ONE.

she sings her soul in tune
no one will forget her
sweet 'ole rhythm and blues

There's just something about good music -- something that moves you and touches you in a way that leaves you inspired. I remember one of the best nights of our lives -- top 10 on the charts, actually -- that took place around a bon fire in western NY. The two of us were spending the week at the Healing Spirits Herb Farm. A friend from the area decided to take us to an open mic night, of sorts. We took a dirt road that led us way back into the woods; We followed tiki lamps that lit the way. Some of the lamps were burnt out, so to substitute our lack of light we pulled out cell phones to be used as flashlights. It was pretty late by the time we found our way, and come to find out the gathering ended before we actually got to the end of the trail. We backtracked, following some people out to a park and sitting around a bon fire right beside a lake. Before long there were at least four guitars and 10 of us singing the songs of Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews. I remember picking up the guitar myself and singing a song or two (the first time I've ever really sang in front of anyone besides close friends). It was wonderful. Good company, good music, a lake, the stars, and wet grass under our feet. Simple moments. Amazing memories. Thanks to the music.
