where did all the silence go
it echoes deep inside of me
sometimes i want this city to know
that quiet times define things
Turn off the T.V., the radio, the computer. Silence your cell phone. Turn off the lights and turn down your thoughts. Sit quietly and just BREATHE. The world doesn't stop. The city keeps moving. And, the noises that seem to fall outside of your control continue to keep sounding. Luckily, your intentions are within yourself; Allow the distractions to pass and focus on that beautiful silence that becomes you. That silence between inhale and exhale -- the 'space between' as Dave Matthews would say -- linger THERE for a while. Are you impatient because you can't keep quiet? Do you fall to frustration because you can't keep still? Are the thoughts that have plagued you all week long, seeping into meditation? It's tough to be silent, when all around you is chaos and noise. But know that just the effort to settle into that still space is ENOUGH. Embark on a silent self-discovery. What do you notice when the noise is on mute and the thoughts disappear?
