using drugs as her release
with everyday that passes
there's a pain that just won't cease

Blog about the piece:
How aware are you? This is a great question and one that is the primary focus of a current book I'm reading called AWARENESS (which, let me just say, is a fantastic book). The author, Anthony De Mello, does well with analogies and lays it all out there in bare bones. De Mello forces the reader to observe and be aware, even if that awareness is warranted by feelings of negativity or heartache. De Mello reminds readers to "Look how conscious you are of your tooth when you have a toothache. When you don't have a toothache, you're not even aware you have a tooth; or that you have a head, for that matter, when you don't have a headache. But it's so different when you have a splitting headache... every negative feeling is useful for awareness, for understanding. So begin to be aware of your present condition whatever that condition is. Stop being a dictator. Stop trying to push yourself somewhere. Then someday you will understand that simply by awareness you have already attained what you were pushing yourself toward."
